Home Economics Center was created by action of the board of trustees at Ashland University on April 6, 1977. The firm of George Raike and Associates was hired to draft plans for the remodeling of the former Student Union into a Center for Human Development. The new Center is made possible by a memorial contribution of $100,000 by Charles Kates. The Center will be named for Mrs. Kates. The Phyllis Jacobson Kates Center for Human Development. RMR House/HMH House The Resource Management Residence/Home Management House was located first at 921 Grant Street and later at Moss Hill Drive in Ashland, Ohio. The house is a class for majors of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and is required for graduation. The class is a three credit hour class in which majors of the department live in the house for one semester to learn such things as management, meal preparation, and other household skills. June 2013, due to budget concerns and cutbacks the Family & Consumer Sciences Department was dissolved. Duties formally carried out by this department have been assumed by other areas of the Ashland University campus. |
