Admin/Biographical History Biography

A native of Ashland County, she was born in Savannah, Ohio in 1906. A graduate of Ashland High School, she earned a B.M. degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1929, and a M.S.M. degree from Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music in 1933. In 1935 she was appointed professor of music literature and composer-in-residence at Ashland College, a position she held until her retirement in 1959. Miss. Kettering died March 9, 2000.

As a composer in music, about 20,000 copies of her published works have been sold throughout the country. Her music has been sung in colleges, churches, universities, on radio stations and by nationally famous choir and choral groups.

The papers of Eunice Lea Kettering represents a compilation of her collected works found here at Ashland University. In addition, the University of new Mexico librar also contains several of her compositions.

Eunice Lea Kettering died March 9, 2000.

Notes The following adding items were sent by Fred Saur on January 24, 2002. Mr. Saur had collected these items over the past years from Ms. Kettering. During the years that Ms. Kettering served Ashland College as composer in residence Fred Saur was her assistant.
