Admin/Biographical History Rev. Edward Lewis Miller (1880-1957). Teacher, Pastor, Evangelist. Rev. Miller was born in Tremont, PA, and was the son of Lewis H. and Margaret A. Roberts Miller. He graduated from Ashland College in 1912, while at Ashland he played on the football team and was known as Saint Miller. He taught school and was a pastor at Nappanee, IN; Uniontown, PA; and Mansfield, OH (1912 to 1924). Miller taught school and ministered to the Mauertown, VA, Brethren Church, 1924 to 1957. He was also moderator of General Conference in 1941. He also served for twenty-five years on the Ashland College Board of Trustees, with four years as board president. He was a member of the National Sunday School Board and served as vice president for 20 years.

At Mauertown, VA he taught the Alexander Mack Men's Bible class. He was a talented musician and organized a number of bands and orchestras. In his younger years Rev. Miller taught at Woodstock High School, and served as Principals of the Maurertown Grade School and Savannah Academy, Savannah, Ohio.

He was married to Miss Anna Galbraith, a native of Glasgow, Scotland. His second marriage was to Miss Martha Schmael of St. James, MD; she preceded him in death in 1953. There are four daughters; Miss Margaret Ann Miller, of Washington; Mrs. Lois Pilch of Chevy Chase, Md.; Mrs. Dorothy M. Redman, of Falls Church; and Mrs. Eleanor M. Colman, of Amherst, Wis.; a brother, John R. Miller of Philadelphia, and a sister Gertrude Sunday, of Duncannon, PA.

This collection also includes a magic lantern slide projector used by Rev. Miller for teaching and evangelism work. This projector also includes a set of glass slides based on religious subjects.

Also included are two file storage boxes of received poems. These poems are clipped items which Rev. Miller received. The poems relate to topics of religious interest. These poems are not arranged, and most date to the mid1930's.
